Summer Day and Night Video Monitor 5" Screen Review

Summer Day and Night Video Monitor 5
I have a 2 and a half year old daughter, and have had this product since day one. It is wonderful to be able to see her, and know she is okay. I advise every parent to get one, or one like it. The major flaw that I have had with it is the AC Adapters are badly made the wires come loose (in the casing) and the Adapter stops working. I have tried every universal adapter from walmart, and radio shack, and becuase of the way it is made none of them fit, the only option is to purchase the replacment adapter from the summer infant website. It is $19.99, and takes a couple of weeks to arrive, so be forwarned you have to do without a monitor for the period of time that the AC Adapter takes to arrive. Several of my friends who have the same product have had this problem, and this is my 3rd Adapter since first getting the monitor.
We received this item as a baby shower present, and we love the ability to check in on our baby visually (especially in the early months). Simply put, a video monitor gives a parent peace of mind in ways that audio monitoring alone just can't. However... this particular product has had issues from Day 1 for us - bursts of loud, offensive static occur frequently (across all channels). This is terrible to deal with, personally, this alone has either kept me awake or woken me more times than I can count. We actually bought a cheap audio monitor to run in tandem with this product (we just mute the video monitor's audio). This simply shouldn't happen, given that the primary function of this device is to deliver clear video/audio (we have never had much of a problem with the video signal, it typically comes in quite clear). As well, the product's lowest volume setting (besides mute) is still blaring loud - if we do use the sound from the video feed, we have to muffle the speaker with a cloth to achieve the desired volume.

Bottom line, having video is a real comfort to us and allows parents to keep an eye on their baby... bringing comfort and peace of mind. But if you want crystal clear sound, I would look elsewhere.
