Philips Avent DECT baby monitor SCD520 - Baby monitoring system - DECT - 120-channel Review

Philips Avent DECT baby monitor SCD520 - Baby monitoring system - DECT - 120-channel Review
I had the old Philips SCD 589 for our first child. Never had a problem with it being too quiet and have depended upon it to wake us up over a noisy A/C unit. The old unit bit the dust after being dropped one too many times. That new unit, like the old one, is great....fantastic range, silence (no hiss), adjustable sensitivity, etc. However, one big caveat is that you can no longer remotely activate the lullaby from the parent unit. For some reason the US/Canada market did not get that feature activated. For us, the lullaby has been a great way to help a fussy baby get back to sleep in short order without actually having to get out of bed. Lacking this remote activation in the US models is a deal breaker. Sadly, we will be returning it to Amazon....it is too bad they won't ship the European one to the US from Amazon UK.
This is the best monitor we've ever had and we've gone through several others (Sony, Graco, Fisher Price, Safety 1st) before deciding to plunk down the money for this one. I would've given it 5-stars if it let you remotely turn on the lullabies from the parent unit, but it does not. That said, we do not regret buyting this monitor at all! It is an excellent monitor and the walkie-talkie feature has been extremely useful! I can't imagine not having that feature in a baby monitor now! After having a few monitors that had the volume control dial, I was thrilled that this had a push-button digital volume control. I could never get the same volume using the dial because they weren't sensitive enough. Most nights we have the volume at 1 dash and we can hear our son very well if he gets upset and cries. We can even walk outside to the mailbox and still get reception. The lullabies aren't the greatest quality, but they're decent and it's a lot easier traveling with just this instead of also taking our ipod or lullaby CD so our son could listen to the same bedtime music each night. I also love that it has a built-in thermometer since the rooms in our house vary greatly in temperature. Our room would feel cold and I would worry about our son's room before we had this monitor since I didn't know how cold his room was. Now that we have the monitor, I don't have to worry because if it gets too cold or hot, the parent unit will start beeping. I highly recommend this product! Another son is on the way so I am about to buy another one of these awesome monitors because it is the best by far!
