Sony NTM-910 900 MHz Babycall Nursery Monitor [White] Review

Sony NTM-910 900 MHz Babycall Nursery Monitor [White] Review
We've been using this sound monitor for 5 years now, and it has been utterly dependable. There have been only two drawbacks: (1) The range is not all that great. With our daughter's room at one side of the house, and our room at the other, we have had to move the pickup unit to far wall of her bedroom so it will be as close as possible to ours. (2) There are 9 channels on our older model. When we started using this 5 years ago, any channel worked fine. But, times change, and there is a lot more RF interference: it will occasionally pick up our neighbor's cell phone conversations (not that interesting!); and the background suppression is now being affected by something---we haven't quite figured out what. Having the full 27 channels this model offers is doubtless an improvement over the version we have.
I've had this product for 2.5 yrs now, and I have to say, in general, it's a good piece of equipment. It's sturdy, long lasting, and dependable in most instances. It's annoying that if it rains outside or if the weather is not great, then the out of range indicator beeps until you either turn it off or move it to a place that might get better reception. However, I do like that you can put it on the sound activation mode which blocks out a lot of extraneous background noise. Here's my biggest beef with this item... though it indicates that there are various volume settings, the truth is, there are only two. Those two are 1) no sound and 2)sound so loud that it makes you jump 10 feet off your bed from fright. All my daughter has to do is let out a little cry or even just sit and talk to her stuffed bear and I swear to you the sound is so ear piercing, probably because it does not have any bass, that you immediately want to throw the darned thing out the window. So, be forewarned. Dependable and sturdy, but can be heard by dogs 4 counties over!
